This site is dedicated to those searching for their Russo Alesi ancestors in the village of Polizzi Generosa. Many families with this surname left during the great Sicilian diaspora of the early twentieth century. Many of those families changed their names after coming to the United States or other countries. These are some of the more common variations found today: Russo, Russo-Alesi, Russolese, and Russolesi. Certainly other spellings are possible. Like many other Sicilian immigrants most Russo Alesis were contadini (peasants) in Sicily and were illiterate. Their descendants Many today are successful business people, entrepreneurs, doctors, educators, and important contributors to their communities.

Polizzi Generosa
Polizzi Generosa is a small village (about 4,500 people) located about 45 miles southeast of Palermo, Sicily. It has existed since Greek times, before the birth of Christ. Some scholars think that its name may derive from Polis Isis, or the city of Isis, a goddess of the ancient Egyptians and Greeks. More information about the village may be found at these websites.
